Since October 7, 2023, Israel has killed more than 1,000 Palestinians in the West Bank, including more than 230 children. Settler attacks on rural Palestinian communities have increased, destroying property, seizing livestock, and driving families from their homes, while the Israeli military has launched a large-scale assault on the Jenin refugee camp.

This film examines how the Israeli government supports settlers and annexes Palestinian land through infrastructure and building programmes, and how, despite Western governments’ claimed opposition to the occupation, undercover Al Jazeera reporters expose donors in Western countries funding the expansion of illegal settlements.

Posing as UK-based donors, journalists secretly filmed meetings with pro-settler organisations in Israel, who explained how funds could be routed as tax-deductible donations through charities in the UK and Canada — despite it being unlawful for those charities to support illegal West Bank settlements.

The organisations described using donations to campaign for the demolition of Palestinian homes, supply settlers with military-grade equipment like drones and night-vision cameras, and even buy guns for settlers in occupied East Jerusalem and gear for Israeli soldiers.

Aware their activities are unlawful in Canada and the UK, the organisations suggested disguising the true purpose of donations by routing funds through affiliated third parties and misreporting how the money was spent. UK and Canadian charities are required to conduct thorough due diligence on overseas spending to ensure legal compliance, but Al Jazeera’s evidence points to serious failures in that process.
